TIRUPATI, JULY 15. A farmer, K. Chinnaswamy Reddy (45) of Avulareddy kandriga of Tirumalayyagaripalle panchayat in Vedurukuppam mandal consumed pesticide and forced his daughter, Jeevaratnam and son, Somasekhar to consume the same on Thursday. They died later. Reddy's wife, Santhamma, was away at a nearby mango pulp unit at the time. The farmer had owned 3.5 acres of land and reportedly borrowed Rs. 3.6 lakh. Reports said the failure of the third consecutive borewell he sunk pushed him over the edge.
Three more end lives
Another farmer, P. Ponnuswamy Reddy of Mundlapudi village in Tirupati committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Thursday. ANANTAPUR: D. Gopal (56) of Hampapuram in Rapthadu mandal consumed poison on Thursday. Reports said the farmer was found dead when his family returned for lunch from wage labour. ONGOLE: Peddireddy Ananta Reddy (45) of Bodduvanipalem in Korisapadu mandal consumed pesticide early on Thursday. Police said the farmer had been unable to repay debts accounting to Rs. 2.4 lakhs. He had borrowed the money for sinking borewells in his 2.7-acre land.
