By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JULY 15. Eleven MLAs, including one belonging to the Samajwadi Party and two others elected on the Janata Party ticket from Andhra Pradesh in the last elections, have been accorded associate member status by the Congress high command.

This was conveyed to them at a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, which was also attended by some independents, on Thursday. The Samajwadi Party MLA from Gadwal, D.K. Aruna, and the Janata Party MLAs -- K. Ramulu of Metpalli and Shashidhar Reddy of Medak -- are among the new associate members of the party. All of the three had been denied the Congress ticket in the last elections and chose the politically circuitous route to gain the associate status.

However, the status of the SP and JP MLAs does not get altered in the Assembly and they continue to remain what they are - MLAs of their respective parties.

The CLP meet chaired by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy also announced the names of its executive. The deputy leaders are: P. Sambasiva Raju, C. Venkat Rao and S. Chandra Sekhar while M. Gopalakrishna is its treasurer. H. Appayya Dora, S. Ganga Ram, E. Pratap Reddy and Konda Surekha are secretaries.

The executive members are: K. Murali Mohan, K. Ravi Babu, Gade Venkat Reddy, R. Chenga Reddy, M. Venkata Ramana Rao, G. Ravi Kumar, K.Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, P. Veeraiah, K. Sujatha Reddy, H. M. Ahamadulla, B. Saraiah, Ch. Narsi Reddy, M. Mukesh, V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, V. Vasanth Kumar, A. Indrakaran Reddy, S. Sailajanath, Ch. Vamshi Krishna, P. Satyanarayana, Jalagam Venkat Rao, Nadendla Manohar and V. Purushottam Reddy.

The meeting directed the MLAs to actively associate themselves with the PCC membership drive as the closing date for the task is July 30.

The PCC president, D. Srinivas, could not attend the CLP meet due to indisposition.

The meeting also heard a demand for filling of nominated posts to market, library and endowment committees at the earliest.

Talking to reporters later, Mr. Puli Veeranna and other independent MLAs said they had attended the CLP meeting at the invitation of the PCC president whom they met on Wednesday night and the Chief Minister.
