Role of IPR

HYDERABAD: Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is imperative to become competitive globally, but businesses must realise that they should strategically use IPR and not fall for the `number game', cautioned Dr. Prabuddha Ganguli, Advisor Vision IPR and CII. Delivering the theme address at a seminar on `Managing Intellectual Property', organised by the CII, A.P. unit, here on Thursday, he said IPR litigation itself was creating a business and becoming a strategy tool. S. N. Maity, Controller General, Patents, Trademarks and Design, Central Government, emphasised the need to create awareness for patenting innovations and trademarks. B. Kripanandam, Industries Secretary, Government of A.P., said there were many technologies in rural areas which were not patented. Kumar, Director, STPI (Hyderabad), stressed the need to protect IPR.
