Housewife's death: enraged kin `kill' husband

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JULY 15. A truck driver was beaten to death allegedly by enraged in-laws and relatives accusing him of murdering his wife whose body was found hanging from the ceiling in her house at Greenpark colony of Saroornagar last night.

The tragedy unfolded when Yadaiah (25) returned home around 8 p.m. only to find the doors bolted from inside. As his wife, Anjamma (18), failed to respond to repeated knocks on the door, he peeped through the window and found her body hanging from the ceiling.

A stunned Yadaiah broke open the doors, alerted his neighbours and sent a message to his in-laws who live in the same locality.

On receipt of information, Anjamma's parents, Ramaswami and Yadamma, along with several close relatives, turned up at the house.

They picked up an argument with Yadaiah accusing him of killing Anjamma and attempting to make it appear a suicide.

"It seems one of the relatives suddenly slapped Yadaiah and others also began to beat him with sticks," the Saroornagar Inspector, M. Chandrashekhar, said.

The angry mob, including some women, showered blows on Yadaiah and attacked him with hockey sticks leaving him battered and bruised.

When Yadaiah's parents Bondaiah and Sattemma intervened, the irate mobs chased them away. Sensing trouble, a neighbour called up the Saroonagar police, who shifted a severely bleeding Yadaiah to the Osmania General Hospital. An hour after Wednesday midnight, Yadaiah succumbed to his injuries.

"Though doctors opined that Anjamma could have committed suicide, we registered a murder case against Yadaiah and his parents following a complaint from his in-laws," the police said.

A murder case was also registered in connection with Yadaiah's death against his in-laws.

However, no arrests were made till Thursday night.
