Kruthika Raj
BANGALORE, JULY 15. The parents of an 18-year-old girl who was killed in a road accident in Malleswaram on Thursday have donated her eyes. The police said Kruthika Raj, the only child of her parents, was killed on the spot when a multi-utility vehicle knocked down her scooter on Margosa Road at about 6.30 a.m. Kruthika Raj, a II PU student of Seshadripuram College, was on her way to tuitions when the accident occurred. Her parents, Sudha and Varadharaj, are residents of 4th Main, Malleswaram. They own a provision store in Seshadripuram. Soon after the accident, Kruthika Raj's parents requested the Malleswaram Traffic Police Inspector, B.A. Vishwanath Singh, to help them donate the eyes and kidneys of their daughter to a hospital. Mr. Singh got the body shifted to Victoria Hospital and arranged for immediate removal of the eyes and kidneys. "While Kruthika Raj's eyes were obtained by Lion's Eye Hospital, the kidneys could not be used," Mr. Singh told The Hindu. "Despite the shock and grief, her parents at once decided to donate their daughter's eyes and kidneys as they thought it would help some one get the vision or save a life," Kruthika Raj's uncle, Krishna, said. "As it took some time in shifting the body to the hospital and as experts were not available there at that time, the kidneys could not be removed," Mr. Krishna said. The Malleswaram Traffic Police seized the vehicle and arrested the driver Gangadhara (30) of Srinagar, Mr. Singh said.
