BANGALORE, JULY 15. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday told a city court that Chennakeshava, doctor and Administrative Officer of Victoria Hospital, had accepted Rs. 5 lakh from Abdul Karim Telgi, the alleged kingpin of the fake stamp paper racket, to issue fake medical certificates. The CBI arrested Chennakeshava on Wednesday. After producing Chennakeshava before the 1st Additional City Metropolitan Magistrate, V.H. Sambrani, the CBI said in the remand application that he had paid a part of Rs. 5 lakh to another doctor and made him issue fake certificates. Telgi used these certificates to obtain bail in the Upparpet case in which he was an accused, the CBI said. "Chennakeshava bought a second-hand car for Rs. 1.85 lakh and availed himself of a loan of Rs. 85,000 from a multinational bank for the purpose. After taking the money from Telgi, he repaid the loan with interest in one go," the CBI said. The CBI sought custody of Chennakeshava on the grounds that it wanted to explore his "network." The Magistrate remanded Chennakeshava in CBI custody till 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Magistrate remanded the suspended Police Inspector, Vali Basha, in judicial custody till July 27. The CBI arrested Basha along with two other suspended police officials, T.G. Sangram Singh and V.A. Khan, a few days ago. Sources said CBI officials on Wednesday interrogated Sunil Chavan, Medical Superintendent of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, where Telgi had been lodged for nearly two years.
