NEW DELHI, JULY 16. As many as 54 people allegedly gambling at the Karol Bagh Union Club here on Thursday were arrested and stake money totalling over Rs. 15 lakhs seized by the Special Staff of the New Delhi police. All of them were released on bail on Friday. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Rajiv Ranjan, received a tip-off that a big betting racket was being run at the Karol Bagh Union Club under the patronage of its managing committee. Subsequently, a team under his supervision mounted a raid on the first and second floors of the club building. The police said 54 people, including the club's vice-president, Joginder Thukral, and general secretary, Yuddhisther Kumar, were arrested during the raid. Investigations revealed that the building was a big gambling den. It is equipped with three close-circuit cameras at the main entrance, reception and on the second floor as a safety precaution. The guards deployed at the main entrance keep alarm buttons in their pockets to alert people in case of any "danger". The police said they have also arrested Sarabjeet who had been running the gambling business on Yuddhisther's behalf. He was earlier arrested under the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances (Prevention) Act.
