VIZIANAGARAM, JULY 17. The Lok Ayukta, R. Ramanujam, has underlined the need to check corruption at all levels and appealed to the public to send him representations for suitable action against corrupt officials and elected representatives. "If corruption is left unchecked we will be doing injustice to future generations," he said at a press conference here on Saturday. Mr. Ramanujam said he would probe into allegations of corruption against public servants whose basic minimum pay is more than Rs. 7,400 per month and elected representatives, including Ministers, MLAs, mandal presidents, zilla parishad chairpersons, first grade municipal chairpersons and corporation mayors, and also chairmen of various corporations, vice-chancellors and registrars of universities. The recent order of High Court Bench had brought IAS and IPS officers also under the purview of Lok Ayukta, he said. About 40-50 per cent of the funds sanctioned for various programmes were being misappropriated, he noted.
