YSR to lay stone for irrigation project

By Our Correspondent

ADILABAD, JULY 17. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will lay the foundation stone for the Rs. 25 crore Mattadivagu project at Waddadi village in Tamsi mandal on July 25 during his `Rajiv palle bata' programme.

This medium irrigation project will irrigate 8,500 acres in Tamsi mandal.

The Labour Minister, G. Vinod, revealed this while addressing the District Congress Committee meeting here on Saturday and criticised the Telugu Desam Party for neglecting farmers. He said the TDP had failed to mitigate the sufferings of farmers during its nine-year rule.

"How can the Congress accomplish in two months what the TDP had failed to do in nine years," he asked.

Reiterating that the Congress Government was pro-farmer, the Minister sought a change in the attitude of officials while addressing the farmers' problems. The Minister also urged the Congressmen in the district to contribute to the Chief Minister's relief fund instead of felicitating him during the visit.

Statehood issue

KARIMNAGAR: Expressing concern over contradictory statements by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Congress on the Telangana issue, the Telugu Desam Party district unit has demanded that the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy, to disclose the party stand on statehood for Telangana.

At a press meet here on Saturday, the TDP district official spokesperson, Eda Shankar Reddy, asked the Chief Minister to clarify their stand on Telangana and alliance with the TRS.

He also demanded clarification on a charter of questions, including diversion of the Godavari waters to the Andhra region, faction killing of TDP leaders in Rayalaseema and peace talks with naxalites.

Alleging misuse of the official machinery, he asked the Government to release a white paper on `Rajiv palle bata' programme to disclose the number of beneficiaries.
