Child labour

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, JULY 17.JULY 17.JULY The Deputy Commissioner, Arvind Shrivastava, has said that many cases of bonded child labour have been reported in the district. In a press release, he cited a recent case involving a couple from Heggadadevana Kote who was caught trying to "sell" a boy and a girl to a household as bonded labourers. This deal was unearthed by a city-based non-governmental organisation, Child Helpline, he added. The Deputy Commissioner cautioned people against the practice.

Power cut

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, JULY 17.JULY 17.JULY There will be a power shutdown between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 20 and 24 as maintenance work will be taken up on the 11-kV Shiroor line from the Baindoor distribution centre. The areas to be affected include those surrounding Baindoor and all areas adjoining Shiroor, a press release from Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. says.

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, JULY 17.JULY 17.JULY The Guruvayanakere-based Nagarika Seva Trust was conferred the State-level award for non-governmental organisations by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) as part of its foundation day celebrations in Bangalore. A press release from the trust here on Saturday said the award was conferred for its performance in achieving direct linkage with banks for self-help groups.
