Teen prodigy set to enthral China

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JULY 17. At a tender age of three-and-a-half years, he impressed one and all on stage in his school donning the role of freedom fighter, Alluri Sitarama Raju.

After that power-packed performance, he has been enthralling people across the country and abroad with his exposition of Bharata Natyam. Sai Vamsee Krishna, an 11-year-old prodigy, will now represent India at the Third World Children's Painting Competition and Exhibition to be held in China later this month on an invitation from the Embassy of India, Beijing. Vamsee will be showcasing the Indian dance form to Chinese children and speak on the importance of Indian culture and how it helps in uniting people of the two countries.

"I have performed in the US, Singapore and Mauritius at the invitation of Governments and cultural organisations and every time I felt Indian culture is respected all over the world."

His most satisfying performance, however, has been at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. "He kissed me after my performance and it was the best gift I have ever received," says the student of Brilliant Grammar High School, Dilsukhnagar.

St. Ann's School student for US

If Vamsee Krishna can do the State and the country proud, S. Namratha, a ninth class student from St.Ann's High School, Secunderabad, is not far behind.

She will present a paper on `Urban Water Pollution-Impact on Hussain Sagar Lake' at the International Children's Conference on Environment to be held at Connecticut, US, from July 19 to July 23. She is one of the three schoolchildren from the State who have been nominated to present a scientific paper at conference. The three students representing Friendship Foundation, a city based NGO, includes S. Shravya of St. Pauls High School who will present a paper on `Development of an Artificial Scrub Forest Ecosystem' and M. Vijayaditya of Vijay Mary High School, Nizamabad, who will present a paper on `Connected Water Ways and Water Pollution in Nizamabad District'. The group will also present a cultural programme, a folk dance.
