TIRUMALA, JULY 18. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management is gearing up to conduct the two Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara, slated to begin from September 16 to September 24 and from October 14 to 22, successfully. At a high-level review meeting with top TTD officials, district revenue, police and RTC officials, the TTD Executive officer, Ajeya Kallam, emphasised the precautions to be taken up in meeting the requirements of the pilgrims -- which will be at its peak during the festival period -- and the measures to step up security arrangements. Keeping in view the abortive attempt on the life of the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on `Garuda Seva' day last year and the stampede, which took place on the same night during the procession, Mr Kallam urged the district police and the TTD vigilance and security personnel to be more cautious. There should not be any lapse in the security arrangements meant for the visiting VIPs as well as the public. He also urged intensification of the combing operations in the Tirumala forests apart from stepping up security on both the ghat roads. Special vigilance squads will be deployed along the footpath and at all vital points atop the temple town to ensure that the visiting pilgrims do not fall prey to middlemen. Special initiatives should be taken up in providing more information to the visiting pilgrims at the Tirupati railway station, APSRTC bus stand and at the massive Srinivasam complex. The TTD transport officials were directed to equip themselves with a crane to avoid any kind of disruption of vehicular traffic on the Tirumala ghat roads in the event of any accident or failure of brakes.
