VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 18. The State Government has begun work on a sentinel survey on HIV/AIDS to know the latest trends in various districts. As part of the statewide survey, Health Department officials started collecting blood samples from the district headquarters and sub-divisional Government hospitals. The survey, which started on July 1, will continue for another 70 days. ``Without the knowledge of the patients visiting the STD clinics and anti-natal care wards in hospitals like the King George Hospital, we are collecting blood samples for HIV tests. Our main purpose is to know the trend in the urban, rural and suburban areas,'' the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) Deputy Director, T.L.N. Prasad, told reporters here on Sunday. Expressing concern over the spread of the virus, he said that all sections were vulnerable to the killer virus and observed that it was wrong to brand only truck drivers as the highly susceptible group.
