Rs. 4 lakhs worth Ancient books in Aryabhatta library

COIMBATORE, JULY 18. Ancient Indian books worth Rs. 4 lakhs are now available in the Aryabhatta Library at Thrissur (Kerala), the Director of the Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage, N. Gopalakrishnan, said.

He told presspersons at the CMS College of Science and Commerce here recently that the increase in the number of volumes was an indication of the growing interest in Indian heritage. Many of the ancient volumes on management, science and technology contained material that had practical applications in modern life.

There were divergent views on Indian heritage, but the people of ancient India were knowledgeable about mathematics, astronomy, metallurgy, food science, management science and health science.

In renowned universities, such as Cambridge and Oxford, Indian heritage held a great deal of interest. He had visited 17 varsities during his foreign visits and everywhere there were students who wanted to know about the ancient scientific wisdom of India, Mr. Gopalakrishnan said.
