Mr. Veerappa, who began his political career before Independence, joined the Congress-led freedom struggle and was even deported to the Andamans for his role in the freedom movement. The funeral will take place in Humnabad on Monday.

The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has announced a State funeral.
