Ramachandra Veerappa dead

BANGALORE,
JULY 18.
India's oldest parliamentarian, Ramachandra Veerappa, died in a Hyderabad hospital on Sunday. He was 96.
The Dalit leader, who contested the Lok Sabha elections for the seventh time in 2004 from the reserved constituency of Bidar and won, had been suffering from kidney dysfunction.
Mr. Veerappa, who began his political career before Independence, joined the Congress-led freedom struggle and was even deported to the Andamans for his role in the freedom movement. The funeral will take place in Humnabad on Monday.
The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has announced a State funeral.
The Animal Husbandry Minister, Meerajuddin Patel, will represent the Government.
