By Our Staff Reporter

DINDIGUL, JULY 18. Leaders of political parties, led by the Dindigul MLA, K. Balabarathi, here on Saturday, mourned the children, who were burnt to death in the school fire accident in Kumbakonam.

Addressing a condolence meeting, the Dindigul MLA expressed grave concern over the demise of the children and urged the Government and officials to take measures to prevent such incidents in future. Safety measures should be ensured in all schools. Welcoming the ex-gratia payment announced by the Chief Minister, the MLA said the Government should ensure that schools adhere to the prescribed safety measures stringently while issuing licence.

The Municipal Chairman, M. Basheer Ahmad, described the incident as being ghastly and paid tribute to the children. He insisted that the Government take action against institutions violating the prescribed safety measures. Leaders representing the Indian National Congress, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxists) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam took part.
