Lorry driver, cleaner die in mishap

GUNTUR, JULY 18. The driver and cleaner of a lorry, who had parked their vehicle on the National Highway No.5 at Kaza close to Mangalagiri in Guntur district, were killed when an oil tanker coming from Vijayawada hit their vehicle on Sunday.

While the cleaner of the vehicle died on the spot in the early hours, the driver died at the Guntur Government General Hospital in the afternoon. Both of them could not be identified.

In another case a lorry driver from Nandyal, who had parked his lorry on the highway at the Tenali junciton, was found murdered in the early hours. Identified as Malleswara Rao, he had brought a load of rice to a village in Mangalagiri mandal and after unloading the goods last night had parked the vehicle there.

A 19-year-old housewife, Sheik Shamsad Begum, committed suicide in the Old Guntur locality on Sunday by hanging herself from the ceiling of their own house in the early hours. A native of Valiveru in Tsundur mandal, she was allegedly being harassed by her husband.
