ANTHARGAON (KARIMNAGAR DT), JULY 18. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has criticised the Telugu Desam Party for opposing probe into various scandals during the TDP regime. Dr. Reddy, who was here to participate in the `Rajiv palle bata' programme on Sunday from Jagtial to Karimnagar town covering 12 villages, told newsmen that during the Congress regime between 1989 and 94 probe was ordered into the allegations against their own party leaders and Ministers. He refuted the TDP charge that the Government was resorting to vindictive act on the issue. Referring to irregularities in the implementation of the `Food-for-work' programme, he reminded that the then Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu himself admitted that 20 per cent of the funds were swindled. During the last two months, about 250 farmers committed suicide, while the TDP put the figure at 750, he said. But, during the TDP regime, over 3,000 farmers committed suicide in the State. The TDP Government had remained silent over farmers' suicide. The Chief Minister asked why the TDP was afraid of inquiry into farmers' suicide. Asked about the contradictory statements on Telangana issue by the Congress and the TRS, he said: "We stick to our election manifesto and the common minimum programme." About the Cabinet expansion, he said it was a continuous process and it would be done at an appropriate time. He said the Government was committed to peace talks with naxalites.
