Tirupati
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI, JULY 18. Following the proposed move to shift the BC girls' hostel out of Tirupati, the Students Federation of India (SFI) submitted memoranda to the district Collector Shamsher Singh Rawat and the MLA, M.Venkataramana, urging them to withdraw the decision. The MLA assured the SFI delegation, led by the district secretary, M. C. Reddeppa Reddy, that he would not allow the hostel -- built 20 years ago -- to be closed abruptly. The MLA later paid a surprise visit to the hostel premises in Chenna Reddy colony here, when the inmates mobbed him, urging him to prevail upon the Government not to close the hostel. He promised to protect their interests.
