TUMKUR,
JULY 18.
The case had created a sensation in the district. Narayanappa, who was the chief priest at the Chowdeshwari Temple at Dasarighatta in Tumkur district, took his daughter, Ambika (12), to the nearby Gali Katte Bande (a huge rock which is believed to be haunted) and killed her on Bheemana Amavasye in 2003.
He thought that he could get a treasure if he sacrificed his daughter of that age.
The body of the girl was found 17 days later.
After killing his daughter, Narayanappa returned home and made his wife believe that their daughter was with a relative in a far-off place. He absconded after the body of the girl was found.
Narayanappa was arrested by the Tiptur Rural police following a complaint by his wife.
Mr. Muchchandi also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000 on Narayanappa.
The conviction of Narayanappa came almost exactly a year after he committed the crime.
The judge delivered the verdict on Friday (June 16), a day before Bheemana Amavasya.
A large number of people had gathered at the court hall.
The people praised the police, the public prosecutors, and the judge for the speedy delivery of justice.
