Woman, daughter-in-law found dead

By Our Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR, JULY 18. Ramanjinamma (50) of Holavanahalli in Tumkur district and her daughter-in-law, Teja (20), were found dead in their house on Sunday.

Teja of Doddaagrahara village in Sira taluk of the district married Ravi, son of Ramanjinamma, 11 months ago. Ravi has a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) agency at Holavanahalli.

It is said that Ravi had married Manjula, a primary school teacher, without the consent of his father, Mariyappa, and his mother. They opposed the marriage as Manjula belonged to a different caste. Ravi's parents organised his marriage with Teja after Manjula was transferred to a school at Kushtagi in Raichur district.

Teja learnt about Ravi's first marriage only when Manjula came home last week. A quarrel broke out between them and Manjula returned to Kustagi. Ravi and Teja had a strained relationship after Manjula's visit, it is said.

Senior police officers visited the house. The Koratagere tahsildar conducted the mahazar.

The police said Ramanjinamma might have committed suicide in distress after the death of Teja. Her body was found hanging in the kitchen, while Teja's body was in a room. Investigation is on.
