VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 18. Akash Wagh of Maharashtra won a double crown in the GITAM-AITA Super Series for under-14 boys and girls, which concluded at the synthetic courts of GITAM here on Sunday. Sweta Kumari Solanki of Delhi had a mixed luck. She won the girls' singles, accounting for the eleventh-seeded Ashvarya Shrivastav of Maharashtra. Sweta, along with Prachi Nadkarni, lost the doubles final to Ashvarya and Deepna Vazirani. In the boys' singles, third-seeded Akash defeated the No. 2 seed, Vinay Kamineni 7-6 (2), 6-2. Later Akash, partnering Mikhail Shetty, beat Vinay and N. Sri Ram Balaji of Tamil Nadu to claim the doubles crown.
Doubles (final): Akash/Mikhail bt Vinay/N. Sri Ram Balaji (TN) 6-2, 7-5. Semifinals: Vinay/Sri Ram bt A. Daniel Raj (AP)/Abhijeet Tiwari (Chattisgarh) 9-7; Akash/Mikhail bt Sameer Paranjpe and Christopher (Maha) 9-4.
Girls: Singles (final): Sweta Kumari Solanki (Del) bt Ashvarya Shrivastava (Mah) 6-4, 6-1. Semifinals: Ashvarya bt Danielle Jones (WB) 6-2, 4-6, 6-1; Sweta bt Unnati Purushottam (AP) 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
Doubles (final): Ashvarya/Deepna Vazirani (Mah) bt Sweta/Prachi Nadkarni (Mah) 9-1. Semifinals: Ashvarya/Deepna bt Shamin Ansari (TN)/Unnati 9-7; Sweta/Prachi bt Nandita Krishnan (TN)/G. Janaki S. Rao (AP) 9-8 (11-9).
