Anju wins silver

MADRID, JULY 18. Despite a good start, Anju George had to be satisfied with the silver, with a leap of 6.62 metres at the Super Grand Prix meeting here on Saturday.

Australian Bronwyn Thompson produced a surprise fifth-round jump of 6.80 metres, her season-best, to win the gold, while Briton Jade Johnson took the bronze with 6.58m.

From a low of 6.41m at the Golden Gala in Rome 15 days ago, this was an improvement for Anju, though her eventual mark of 6.62m fell far below expectations. This was her third medal in the Grand Prix circuit this season, she having won the gold at Doha and the bronze at Eugene.
