Khammam
By Our Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM, JULY 18. The Superintendent of Police, Bhavana Saxena, has stressed the need for awareness on health problems among tribals in the sub-plan area of the district. Inaugurating a free health camp in Korukondi, a remote village in Bayyaram mandal, she said literacy would bring about the desired change in the life style of tribals. She said the Police Department would strive to extend all help to tribals in remote pockets. Tribals of remote hamlets were not able to come to the mandal and district headquarters to avail themselves of the medical facilities in public hospitals. The health camps being organised by the department were aimed at reaching out to such disadvantaged sections. She said voluntary organisations also should come forward to help tribals with chronic problems. She assured help from the department to a tribal woman, Alem Veeramma, who was in immediate need of treatment for heart ailment. The woman is bed-ridden. She said tribal hamlets should emerge centres of education and development. About 30 tribal patients in need of eye surgery were identified at the camp and they would be referred to the hospitals. There was a good turnout of patients from about 20 villages in Bayyaram gram panchayats. She wanted the tribals to approach the officials concerned or even the police without hesitation to find a solution for their grievances. The OSD Operations, G. Palaraju, was also present.
