WARANGAL, JULY 18. With the term of the Kakatiya University Vice- Chancellor, Chandrakant Kokate, coming to an end in September, hectic lobbying is on by senior faculty members for the coveted post. The names doing rounds include those of the Professor in Pharmacy, V. Malla Reddy, and the Arts College Principal, V. Gopal Reddy, who are trying their best to get the top job. However, some faculty members are of the opinion that the post should be given to a candidate from the SC, ST or BC category. The University College Principal and Executive Council member, J. Yellaiah, and the faculty member of Economics Department, B. R. Shyamala, too are in the race for the top post. While, Prof. Malla Reddy and Prof. Gopal Reddy have to their credit vast administrative experience, Prof. Yellaiah too stands a good chance. However, the former have strong political backing while it is said that Prof. Yellaiah apparently secured the EC member post with the backing of the Telugu Desam Party. In case the post goes to a BC candidate, the senior faculty member from the Public Administration department, K. Murali Manohar, has every chance of making it. Meanwhile, some of the members who claimed to have worked hard to ensure the victory of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) too are trying their luck. Prof. Kokate has taken voluntary retirement from the department of Pharmacy three years ahead of his actual retirement and is planning to associate himself with the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) or University Grants Commission (UGC) after a brief stay in US after completing his official assignment as the Vice-Chancellor.
