Two held,lorry seized

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREHUBL, JULY 18.JULY 18.JULY The Uppinangady Police have arrested two persons on the charge of illegally transporting cattle in a lorry.

The police gave their names as Abdul Hajij and Hyaris. The lorry used to transport the cattle was seized at Gundya on Sunday. There were 16 head of cattle in the lorry, the police said. A case had been registered in this connection.

Yoga camp

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREHUBL, JULY 18.JULY 18.JULY The Dakshina Kannada unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India has planned to lay a siege to the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office here at 10 a.m. on Monday to protest against the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for tribal development.

A press release stated that the funds meant for tribal development had not been distributed appropriately, particularly in Sullia, Belthangady, and Puttur taluks.

Electrocuted

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREHUBL, JULY 18.JULY 18.JULY A 24-year-old man was charred to death when he reportedly came in contact with a live wire at Machapur village in Dharwad district on Sunday.

The police said Basappa Huligonda was cutting grass near an irrigation motor pump when he came in contact with the live wire. — UNI

Ban orders

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREHUBL, JULY 18.JULY 18.JULY Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been clamped for two days from Sunday in the Kalghatagi Police Station limits in Dharwad district as a precautionary measure following an incident in which 13 people belonging to a particular community were handed over to the police by the Tambur villagers and activists of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

The police said the people arrived last week posing as "Dharma Pracharakas" and stayed at a temple.

But some villagers, who got suspicious about them, allegedly heard them plotting to disturb peace in the area and handed them over to the police, it is said. — UNI

According to a press release, the counselling would be held for those who have excelled in NCC, NSS, sports, literature and culture from 9 a.m. at the Humanities auditorium in Manasagangotri. The students have been asked to be come to the venue with requisite documents.
