MANGALORE, JULY 18. The timekeeper system mooted by the Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators' Association and implemented by route-wise committees for smooth operation of city buses has been suspended on the Suratkal and Kulur routes. While this system is operational on other routes towards Talapady, Ullal, and Kuntikan, bus operators on the Suratkal and Kuloor routes have temporarily decided to suspend the implementation of the system as it reportedly does not meet their requirements. Sources in the association said that the bus operators on the mentioned routes had complained to them about the highhandedness of a few timekeepers affiliated to a trade union. The timekeepers reportedly assaulted a bus crew following some minor altercation over buses not sticking to schedule. Following this, the bus operators raised the issue at the special general body meeting of the association held here on Tuesday. The sources maintained that while the meeting was not able to arrive at a consensus on retaining the services of the timekeepers on the above route, the operators decided to suspend the arrangement until an alternative could be arrived at.
