One killed in Tripura poll violence

AGARTALA, JULY 18. One person was killed and 20 others were injured when political activists clashed at various places in Tripura during the three-tier panchayat polls today, which saw 70 per cent of the voters exercising their franchise, official sources said here.

A Congress activist, identified as Khalek Moishan, was killed at Bejimara under Sonamura subdivision of the West Tripura district when a CPI(M) supporter allegedly hit him with a machete, police said. In another incident, seven CPI(M) supporters and 11 Congressmen were injured at Chulubari under the Salema police station of Dhalai district.

One CPI(M) supporter was injured at Kalyanpur in the West Tripura district while a Congress activist was injured at Bagafa in the South Tripura district.
