Temperature
TIRUCHI, JULY 18. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.1 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.3 degree Celsius.
Hotel workers' union plea
A resolution adopted at a meeting of the union held here recently demanded regularisation of the services of all hotel workers and extension of Provident Fund and gratuity benefits. Another resolution wanted the railways to take over all private hotels, fast food restaurants and canteens functioning in the stations in the Southern Railway. The workers should be absorbed as railway staff.
`Kalai Semmal' award
Woman robbed of jewels
The police said four culprits knocked at the residence of J.Shankar (40), a Southern Railway employee and allegedly robbed his wife, who opened the door, of her jewellery. The Srirangam police have registered a case and are investigating.
Book review programme
In the first edition, the journalist, Prema Nandakumar, would review `My Life - Autobiography by Bill Clinton' published by Alfred A. Knopf and `The message of Mahabharatha - The Nation's Magnum Opus' by Justice P. Kondaramayya, published by Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai.
