Temperature

MADURAI, JULY 18. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 38.5 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.6 degree Celsius.

Mild showers

The city received mild showers for over an hour this evening. The rain, accompanied by strong winds, gave the residents a respite from the hot weather conditions that prevailed for the past few days.

The level in Periyar dam today stood at 119.2 feet, with a storage of 2,484 mcft. The inflow was 614 cusecs with a discharge of 900 cusecs. The level in Vaigai dam was 43.64 feet with an inflow of 614 cusecs and a discharge of 900 cusecs. Peranai received 1.8 mm of rainfall.

Workshop

The Centre for Experiencing Socio-Cultural Interaction (CESCI) will conduct a three-day workshop on `Effective decision-making' for social workers and management personnel from July 26 to 28. Donated

The Paravai branch of Canara Bank has donated Rs. 10,000 to St. Joseph School, an institution for visually impaired students at Paravai, towards expenses of stationery items, carpets and towels.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply in the following areas served by the Teppakulam sub-station, between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. on Monday: Teppakulam, Adaikalam Pillai Colony, New Ramnad Road, Teppakulam west, Kamarajar Salai, Teppam to East Gate, Pankajam Colony, Anuppanadi-Teppam Road, Anuppanadi East and West, Pagalavan Nagar, Meenakshi Nagar, New Meenakshi Nagar, CMR Road, Chinnakannmai, Indira Nagar, Old Kuyavarpalayam Road, Lakshmipuram, Khanpalayam, Paccharisikara Thoppu, Balarengapuram, Mina Teppam and Krishnapuram.
