HYDERABAD, JULY 18. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress of unleashing a "political vendetta" and trying to destabilise local bodies ruled by the Telugu Desam Party and the BJP. Speaking at a news conference here on Sunday, the senior BJP leader, B. Dattatreya, said the new regime was trying to lure elected representatives belonging to the Opposition or seeking to remove them on "flimsy grounds." He said three BJP sarpanches, of Bhoodan Pochampally, Jawaharnagar and Vinukonda, had been suspended by Collectors on chargers of committing irregularities without an inquiry. In all three cases, the Upa-sarpanches belonged to the Congress, Mr. Dattatreya said. "One can understand if action is taken after an inquiry reveals that wrong was committed," he said, adding that attempts had also been made to destabilise the Warangal and Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishads. He said Collectors of different districts had been told to prepare a list of local bodies represented by the Opposition.
