HYDERABAD, JULY 18. Members of Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad at a meeting on Sunday demanded an enquiry into alleged misappropriation of funds supposedly spent for a meeting at Maheshwaram mandal by the previous Government just before the elections. Members alleged that Rs. 80 lakhs was spent on inauguration of the Apparel Park and other programmes. The district Project Director of Velugu, Vengal Reddy, however, said they had paid only Rs. 9 lakhs to the APSRTC for transportating women from different areas. Referring to the rainfall deficit in the district, the members asked the Minister for Mines and Geology, Sabita Indra Reddy and the Minor Irrigation Minister, A. Chandrasekhar to bring pressure on the Government to declare all 33 mandals in the district as drought hit. The members requested that the responsibility of distributing rice for the Food-for-work programme be given to MPDOs rather than MROs.
