Not easy to pass FDI Bill: Yechury

NEW DELHI, JULY 18. A day after Left leaders met the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, to express their reservation against FDI hike in telecom and civil aviation, the CPI(M) leader, Sitaram Yechury, today expressed confidence that the Government would not introduce the Bill in Parliament as it may not be easy for it to get the legislation passed.

Mr. Yechury, who had also opposed the sectoral cap in the insurance sector, told reporters here that the Government was unlikely to take such a step as it would not like to introduce a legislation which would not be passed.

"The Government will face difficulties (in getting the Bill passed)," he said. Mr. Yechury along with party colleague, Prakash Karat had met Mr. Chidambaram.

The CPI leader, D. Raja said the Government could not afford to ignore the views of the Left parties on major economic issues.
