Venkat to head Umpires' Academy
NEW DELHI,
JULY 19.
Former India captain and noted international umpire S. Venkataraghavan will head the Umpires' Academy set up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The appointment was made by the Board's Working Committee here on Monday.
The Board also announced a hike in the match fee for umpires in domestic cricket.
For a senior tournament, the umpires will receive Rs. 2,000 per match and Rs. 1,500 per match in the junior tournament.
Another feature to be introduced from this year will be the mandatory `nets' practice for the umpires under the supervision of a match referee.
