Manipur protest

Sir, — I refer to the protest by Manipuri women against the alleged rape and murder of Tangjam Manorama by personnel of Assam Rifles. The incident has shaken the conscience of the people of Manipur and put a big question mark on the credibility of the security forces. The people of the State fear the security forces more than the insurgents.

Incidents such as Manorama's killing only lend credence to the suspicion that the security forces do not have respect for the law of the land.
