Dismissal demanded

HYDERABAD, JULY 19. The BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, today demanded that the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, sack the Union Minister for Coal, Shibu Soren, if the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader failed to surrender to the police, in view of the arrest warrant issued against him.

A Sub-Divisional Magistrate Court in Jamtara issued the arrest warrant on Saturday, in connection with the killing in 1975 of 11 people in Chiruddih.

Mr. Naidu was speaking to presspersons at the Hyderabad airport. He was en route to Humnabad in Karnataka to attend the funeral of seven-time Member of Parliament from Bidar, Ramachandra Veerappa.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani, declined to speak, saying it was not the right occasion. Arrest warrant challenged

The Union Coal Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief, Shibu Soren, today filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court challenging the arrest warrant issued against him in the Chirrudih massacre case.

The arrest warrant, issued by the Jamtara district court on Saturday against Mr. Soren in connection with the 30-year-old case relating to the massacre of 11 persons in Chirrudih village, was received by the Jamtara police today.

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chattterjee, was informed about it.

The Jharkhand Chief Minister, Arjun Munda, said the administration would go about the legal process as requiredin the wake of the arrest warrant against Mr. Soren.
