BANGALORE: Underwriter Laboratories Inc., a non-profit product-safety testing and certification firm would double staff at UL India, its Indian subsidiary to some 200 in two years and expand its business categories to 500, R. A. Venkitachalam, Managing Director of UL India, said.

To allow customers to get testing done locally, "We will sign up about 12 labs whose testing standards conform to those of UL," said Sajeev Jesudas, President and Managing Director, UL Asia Pacific, said. UL India, the firm's Indian subsidiary did the back office work for the firm's APac business and would soon handle that work for the EU region, Mr. Jesudas said. The auto components, medical and electrical equipment and IT hardware sectors were targeted areas of business growth, a company release said.
