Panchayat posts go to general category

MADIKERI, JULY 19. The Government has reserved the post of Virajpet Town Panchayat president for the general category and the vice-president's post for the general (woman) category in a notification, according to a press release here on Monday.

Similarly, the post of the president of the Somwarpet Town Panchayat has gone to general (woman) and that of vice-president to the general category.

The Kodagu Deputy Commissioner, Srikant Valagad, has appointed the Virajpet tahsildar as election officer for Virajpet Town Panchayat and the Somwarpet tahsildar as election officer for Somwarpet Town Panchayat.

Meanwhile, a vigorous behind-the-scenes exercise is on in Madikeri for the post of the president and vice-president of the City Municipal Council (CMC), presuming that the post of president would be reserved for a general candidate and that of the vice-president for the general (woman) category. The reservation for the CMC is yet to be announced by the Government.
