CUDDAPAH, JULY 19. The CITU district general secretary, N. Ravisankar Reddy, on Monday charged Congress leaders with pressurising anganwadi teachers, appointed during the TDP rule, to quit. At a press conference here, he decried the coercive attempts by Congress leaders in Jammalamadugu, Siddhavatam and Porumamilla mandals, against community development project officers in an attempt to appoint those favourable to them and lamented that the respective MLAs were backing them. Stating that nearly 3.50 lakh contractual workers, appointed during the TDP rule, were discharging duties in place of regular employees, he asked if they would dare to remove them too. He alleged that beedi workers of Rayachoti area were being paid less than the stipulated Rs. 50 for rolling 1,000 beedis and warned of launching a stir from August 1. A `Chalo Assembly' rally has been proposed for July 22 protesting against denial of minimum wages to contractual electricity workers and vindictive action against them for forming a union, he said. Mr. Ravisankar Reddy flayed the APSRTC Regional Manager, G. Venkatanarayana, and depot manager for scrapping the earlier service and offering fresh appointment to a driver, Raju, though an enquiry proved that he was not responsible for an accident. Alleging vindictiveness, he questioned the continuation of another driver of Pulivendula in service, though he had caused an accident. He alleged that the RTC officials were being vindictive towards the RTC Staff and Workers Federation (SWF) members and advised them to act without bias.
