NEW DELHI, JULY 19. The Union Power Minister, P.M. Sayeed, today said the Centre would facilitate early clearance of power projects to increase the installed capacity in Kerala. In a meeting with MPs from the State here, the Power Minister said under the 50,000-MW hydroelectric initiative being undertaken by the Central Government, pre-feasibility report of the Perinjankutty hydroelectric scheme had already been prepared. The project was estimated to cost Rs. 360.81 crores. Meanwhile, the pre-feasibility report of the Barapole hydroelectric project was still awaited. The Minister said four units in the State, with an installed capacity of about 160 MW were, to be renovated and upgraded under the renovation, modernisation and upgradation programme. The Athirapally hydroelectric project and the Kuriarkutti project also came up for detailed discussions. - UNI
