Thanjavur
By Our Staff Reporter
THANJAVUR, JULY 19. The local residents want the State Government to expedite the establishment of a trauma care ward at the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, which is catering to the needs of people in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Karur and Tiruchi districts. `The proposal envisages establishment of a 20-bedded trauma care ward to deal with accident victims especially fire victims,' said a consumer activist. Medical experts suggest establishment of regional burns wards with full-fledged modern operation theatres and equipment at places like Thanjavur, Madurai and Coimbatore to deal with accident victims. According to C. Gunasekaran, Resident Medical Officer, Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, conventional methods like giving IV fluids, antibiotics could provide relief temporarily but application of modern methods like using collage membrane (a plastic membrane that could be considered as an artificial skin doing the job of actual skin) would certainly save lives.
