Storm claims life

NEW DELHI, JULY 19. A five-year-old boy was killed and two other persons, including his mother, were injured when the branch of a tree snapped and fell on them at the President's Estate here today.

The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, announced a compensation of Rs. 50,000 from his discretionary fund for the family of the boy, Rs. 25,000 for the mother and Rs. 5,000 for the other injured person.

The Secretary to the President, P.M. Nair, has appointed a two-member committee to probe the incident.

According to police, Tulsi Ram and his brother were playing outside the servants' quarters near Mother Teresa Crescent.
