THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 19. Hundreds of people, including children, laid siege to the Divisional Railway headquarters office at Thycaud from morning to evening demanding the retention of the goods shed at Kochuveli even after the setting up of satellite terminal there. The agitators, majority of them children, under the banner of the FCI Valiyathura depot-Kochuveli goods yard Samrakshana Samithy blocked the gates from 10 a.m., disrupting the functioning of the railway office. The family members of the FCI, goods yard and lorries squatted in front of the main gate blocking the traffic along the road and preventing the 1200-odd officials and railway staff from going out of the premises. The Muslim league legislator, K.N.A. Khader, inaugurated the dharna in front of the office. The samithy is agitating against the dismantling of the goods shed since July 5. The agitation was called off by 5 p.m. after the Revenue Divisional Officer, Sasikumar, held talks with the railway officials and agitators, according to railways. Meanwhile, the samithy joint convenor, S. Noohukannu, said in a statement that the agitation in front of the divisional railway office would continue.
