Shops for hawkers likely at new complex

HYDERABAD, JULY 19. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad will consider the case of hawkers in allotment of shops in the commercial complex that is nearing completion at Sultan Bazar, according to the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, here on Monday.

Talking to newsmen after inspecting the ongoing works at the site, along with the area corporators and senior officials, Mr. Krishna Reddy said the area needed decongestion. There was also the pressing issue of removing bookshops alongside the roads at Koti.

The commercial complex being built at a cost of Rs.3.23 crores has seven shops on the ground floor, nine shops on the second floor and space for offices and showrooms in the second and third floors besides parking on the basement.Shopkeepers and hawkers of the area complained had to the Mayor that the traffic police were harassing them and sought space in the commercial complexas was assured earlier by the Corporation. Mr. Krishna Reddy promised to look into their complaints.

The traffic junction near the Osmania University Women's College at Koti and another near the State Bank of India office are in for a face-lift with the MCH taking up renovation of the parks there. Civil works of the Tilak Park is nearly complete except for a water fountain. The work on the Feroze Gandhi Park that also has a clock tower will be taken up after consulting the heritage committee

Special package

The Mayor said he would meet the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to seek a special package for the capital.

He pointed out that budgetary allocation for the Corporation was cut by Rs. 50 crores and this could affect the development plans.

"We had received the clean and green city awards for three years. We cannot afford to ignore the city's development and Government help is necessary," he said. Mr. Krishna Reddy specifically mentioned the metro rail project for which a survey was done for the corridor between Sanathnagar and Dilsukhnagar.
