Teachers put out fire in school

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JULY 19. Alert teachers averted a tragedy when a fire broke out at Government Primary School at Sanjeevininagar in Hebbal Police Station limits on Monday afternoon.

The police said the fire broke out at around 12.30 p.m. following a gas leak at a room in the school where midday meals were being cooked for the students. On noticing the fire, the alert teachers rushed the students out of the school and called the Fire Force personnel. By the time a fire tender reached the school, which has an asbestos-sheet roof, the teachers put out the fire. No one was injured in the incident, the police said. "With the Kumbakonam tragedy fresh in their minds, the teachers did not take chances and sent all the children out of the school though it was a minor fire," the police said.
