BANGALORE, JULY 19. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Commissioner, K. Jothiramalingam, has asked cable-television service providers to remove cables drawn on streetlight poles within three days. According to a press release here on Monday, the service providers have been illegally using streetlight poles to draw cables in the city. "The BMP has not permitted any of the service providers to use streetlight poles for providing connections. Though the companies and cable operators had been warned several times to remove the cables, they are yet to do so," the release said. "If the cables are not removed before July 22, the BMP personnel will remove them without any prior notice," the release added. Cable TV subscribers went without their favourite programmes for three days last week as the service providers went on a strike protesting against the cutting of cables by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. following the electrocution of a boy. After talks with the State Government and an assurance that "authorised" cables would be restored, the strike was called off on Saturday night. The cable operators are yet to react to the BMP's directive.
