Kurnool
By Our Staff Reporter
KURNOOL, JULY 20. The DCC secretary, M. Sudhakar Babu, urged the State Government to initiate measures to restore 320 seats in medial colleges in Rayalaseeema region, which are on the verge of being cancelled due to inadequate infrastructure. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said the cancellation of seats would be detrimental to the interests of the region. Out of the 445 seats proposed to be cancelled in the State, 320 are from Rayalaseema alone while 50 seats are from Warangal, 25 from Guntur and 50 from Kakinada. He said in Rayalaseema region, including Nellore falling under Sri Venkateswara University jurisdiction, 150 seats are from Kuppam, 100 from Anantapur, 50 from Tirupathi and 20 from Kurnool. He said that private medical colleges allegedly hired medical teachers on the day of inspection and could manage the panel. Mr. Sudhakar Babu said he would write to all the MLAs from the region including the Chief Minister, who hailed from Cuddapah district and the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to take up the matter. The Kurnool MP, Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy, promised to take up the issue with the Union Minister for Health, Panabaka Laxmi. He said the Medical Council of India should not insist upon formalities in Government Medical Colleges of repute like the Kurnool Medical College. Many students who passed out of the college are excelling in the US and European countries.
