TDP leader's aides held

ANANTAPUR, JULY 20. The town police arrested the followers of TDP leader, Pothula Suresh, today for illegal possession of weapons. They also raided the house of Mr. Suresh but found nothing incriminating.

According to the Anantapur DSP, Balanarasimha Reddy, a police team led by Two Town Inspector, B. Narasimhulu, was checking vehicles near Ramnagar railway gate as part of measures to prevent any untoward incident at civil supplies tenders on Tuesday.

The vehicles of Mr. Suresh, a former naxal leader, who was coming to the town to attend a court case, and his followers were checked as part of the screening. The police found hunting sickles and sticks in his followers' vehicle and arrested Rameshbabu and Srinivasulu (brothers-in-law of Mr. Suresh), the vehicle driver, Balappa, and a few others.

Later, a police team raided the rented house of Mr. Suresh in Srinagar colony but found nothing except, small stones (road-metal) packed in gunny bags on the terrace.

The police registered a case against the followers of Mr. Suresh under the Arms Act. They also seized a Tata Sumo, in which they were travelling.
