HYDERABAD, JULY 20. The Roads and Buildings Minister, Jakkampudi Ramamohan Rao, on Tuesday announced in the Assembly that the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), had agreed to give financial assistance of Rs. 300 crores to repair rural roads in the State. Replying to supplementaries during question hour, Mr. Rao said the scheme, which was cancelled earlier, was revived after the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, pursued it with the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, T. R. Baalu. There was also a proposal to get the "Rajiv Rahadari" declared as National Highway. A meeting of MLAs and officials of eight districts would be convened soon to elicit their views on problems on national highways, he said. To the main question tabled by P. Venkataramaiah and M. Buddha Prasad (both Congress), he said the State had submitted a "no objection" to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for transfer of assets of the 214-A new national highway from Digamarru in West Godavari district to Ongole.
Free power to single
bulb households
The Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, told D. Uma Maheswara Rao (TDP) that the Government would not go back on its election promise of free power supply to single bulb households. A comprehensive survey and study was being undertaken and a meeting organised to take views of experts, he said. The meeting on July 24 would be attended by representatives of the Dr. MCR Institute of Human Resource Development and National Productivity Council. Preliminary studies showed that 13.92 lakh people consumed less than 15 units.
Drinking water
The Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao, told M. V. P. Appa Rao and M. Buddha Prasad (both Congress) that the Government was examining a proposal to supply drinking water to Nuzvid from Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, by laying a pipeline. The Cooperation Minister, K. Laxminarayana, informed P. Aruna (TDP) that the Government was studying creation of provisions in the AP Cooperative Societies Act.
