HYDERABAD, JULY 20. Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member, V. Hanumantha Rao, has appealed to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to take steps to protect the Bathkammakunta water body from encroachers and hand over the same to the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. In a letter addressed to Dr. Reddy, a copy of which was released to the press here on Tuesday, Mr. Hanumantha Rao charged officials of the Revenue Department, the MCH and the police with colluding with landlord, Syed Azam, and not contesting the case when it came for hearing in the High Court last month. Giving an overview of the developments, the Congress leader said that the land of about eight acres was declared surplus land and surrendered by Mr. Azam. It was acquired by the Urban Land Ceiling Department last year. But, the landlord had allegedly colluded with the officials concerned and fenced it after filling the tank during the elections. He had also filed a case in the High Court and got a stay order.
